Rocket launch might be visible here early Thursday

Anyone willing to wake up early Thursday could witness a rare treat in Connecticut’s night sky — a rocket on its way to the International Space Station should be visible shortly after liftoff from Wallop’s Island, Virginia.

Northrop Grumman’s Antares rocket launch from the Mid-Atlantic Regional Spaceport at NASA’s Wallops Flight Facility at 4:49 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 15.

AccuWeather says the rocket should be visible in this area 120 to 150 seconds after liftoff. From this area, viewers will need to look to the south.

The Antares rocket will carry Northrop Grumman’s Cygnus cargo spacecraft.

The launch could be visible to people up and down the East Coast, weather permitting.

Fairfield County’s forecast so far calls for partly cloudy skies Wednesday night into Thursday, with a chance of rain arriving in Thursday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.
