The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for the Quad-City area beginning at 6 p.m. and continuing until 6 p.m., Saturday as a band of snow is expected to develop and spread into parts of eastern Iowa and far northwestern Illinois by late this afternoon.

The snow will become heavy at times tonight, with periods of snow then continuing through the day on Friday.

Currently the axis of heaviest snow (4-8 inches and up to 10 inches in some localized areas) is expected to occur generally along and north of an Iowa City to Davenport, and to a Princeton, Illinois.

Expect a difficult Friday morning commute. The snow is expected to taper off from west to east by late Friday afternoon. Be prepared for significant reductions in visibility and very slick roads.

During heavy snow and traffic visibility will drop to zero at times.

A Winter Storm Warning for snow means severe winter weather conditions will make travel very hazardous or impossible. If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.

The city of Davenport reports that based on the current National Weather Service forecast a snow emergency is being declared.

The Snow Emergency will be in effect beginning at 5 p.m., tonight, until 7 a.m., Saturday. The declaration may be extended based on the duration of this event, arriving conditions, and increasing confidence in the snowfall forecast for Saturday.

Parking on posted snow routes is prohibited when a snow emergency is in effect. Vehicles parked on posted snow routes will be ticketed and may be towed.
