Follow our tips on how to save money when out boozing as we wave goodbye to dry January

ARE you saying cheers to the end of Dry January today?

Around three million of us stayed sober last month — improving our health and saving an average of £67 by not buying booze.

But if you are about to hit the bottle again now it is February, you can still save when having your favourite tipple.

Here’s how. . . .

  1. Keep it simple. The more ingredients your drink has, the pricier it tends to be. Swap complicated cocktails for one or two-ingredient drinks to cut costs.
  2. Choose house wine or beer. Bars and restaurants choose decent brews for their in-house offerings so you get quality at a reasonable price.
  3. Ditch the shots. They may be fun but it is incredibly expensive for a single mouthful — and bad for your health. Instead, buy a bottle of wine or pitcher of beer to share.
  4. Sip slowly and drink water in between. It is better for your body and your wallet.
  5. Pay with cash and take out a set amount of money so you can track your spend. Once the cash is gone, go home.
  6. Take turns to be the designated driver on nights out. You will save money on taxis and can stick to cheaper soft drinks.
  7. Look for deals. Most bars and restaurants offer happy hours or voucher codes giving up to 50 per cent off.
