Facebook and Instagram, along with WhatsApp, crashed on Monday.
According to Down Detector, a platform that tracks when services go down or have outages, Facebook started seeing issues at 10:43 a.m. (11:43 a.m. EST) on Monday.
“We’re aware that some people are having trouble accessing our apps and products,” Facebook tweeted. “We’re working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible, and we apologize for any inconvenience.”
At 2:50 p.m., Mike Schroepfer, chief technology officer for Facebook, tweeted the following message:
“We are experiencing networking issues and teams are working as fast as possible to debug and restore as fast as possible,” he said.
User reports indicated Instagram had similar problems just a minute of so later, while WhatsApp followed right behind.
“Instagram and friends are having a little bit of a hard time right now, and you may be having issues using them,” Instagram tweeted. “Bear with us, we’re on it!”
There has been no indication when the social media platforms will be restored.
“We’re aware that some people are experiencing issues with WhatsApp at the moment,” WhatsApp tweeted. “We’re working to get things back to normal and will send an update here as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience!”
