Microsoft has finalized the next version of its desktop operating system, with the public release of Windows 10 October 2020 Update expected in the next few weeks. The October 2020 Update or version 20H2 brings a renewed focus to performance improvements and stability along with a few exciting new features, including a theme-aware Start menu.
This is the second such release after last year’s Windows 10 version 1909, which was delivered like a monthly cumulative update to ensure a quick update process. The upcoming version 20H2 will also be an easier update to deal with for those who are running Windows 10 May 2020 Update, version 2004.
Earlier in the week, Microsoft released and confirmed that Build 19042.508 is the final build of Windows 10 v2009, which means this feature update is now as bug-free as it could get before the public release. The Windows maker will continue to deliver cumulative updates to deal with any last minute issues.
If you don’t want to wait for the public release, here is how to install Windows 10 2009 (October 2020 Update)
You can now install Windows 10 October 2020 Update by signing up with the Windows Insider program. Don’t worry, the feature update is largely bug-free now since the company has been testing version 20H2 for quite some time now, and has also released its final build. However, early adoption isn’t recommended for non-pro users who we continue to advise should install a new Windows 10 feature update after at least 3 months of its public release.
To get Windows 10 October 2020 Update, you need to sign up for the Windows Insider Program. Here is the complete process:
Step 1: Click on the Start menu icon and then on the Settings icon.
Step 2: Go to Update & Security > Windows Insider Program and click on the “Get started” button.
Step 2: You need to register for the Windows Insider Program by linking your Microsoft or Azure Active Directory account email.
Step 3: In the next screen, choose “Release Preview Channel” to join the slowest and most stable channel of the Insider Program. Make sure you are selecting the right channel if you don’t want to get into testing new things and just want to install Windows 10 2009 (20H2).
Step 4: Click on “Confirm” and then “Restart Now” buttons to begin the process.
Step 5: After your device is up again, go Settings > Update & Security > Windows Insider Program to make sure you are on the “Release Preview Channel,” which was previously known as the Release Preview ring.
Step 6: Just like any other update, head over to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and click on the “Check for updates” button to install Windows 10 October 2020 Update.
