Microsoft to close stores in Danbury, Farmington in strategy switch

With rival Apple continuing to invest in its retail stores in Connecticut and elsewhere, Microsoft is closing its own at a cost of $450 million.

In Connecticut, Microsoft has stores at Danbury Fair mall and at the Westfarms mall in Farmington. Microsoft has yet to reopen its stores since closures forced by the coronavirus pandemic.

As the case with Apple, Microsoft has offered hardware and software support via help desks within its stores, as well as gaming stations and other product demos. The company stated it will offer all store employees new positions.
