We’ve been hearing about the resurrected Motorola Razr phone for ages now, but we’re finally a few days out from the official start of preorders: January 26. We’ll show you where to pre-order one, but first, let’s quickly recap the phone’s specs.
We got our first official look at the upcoming Razr relaunch back in November after months of rumors suggested Motorola was looking to bring back the classic device as a foldable smartphone. The phone’s most impressive feature is easily its 6.2-inch, 2142-by-876 foldable pOLED display (quite the mouthful). Unlike the book-like Samsung Galaxy Fold, the new Razr folds horizontally—much like the flip phones its name evokes.
As for the internal hardware, the Razr features:
- A Snapdragon 710 processor.
- 128GB internal storage space (that can’t be expanded)
- 6GB of memory
- A 2510mAh battery (charges via USB-C)
Other notable features include: a second, outer OLED screen for showing notifications and other info while the phone is closed; a 16MP rear camera and 5MP front camera; and a fingerprint sensor. It’ll also run Android 9 Pie out of the box. Those are respectable specs, but not exactly 2020 flagship-tier, and it’ll be slower than, say, the Pixel 4, iPhone 11, or Galaxy S10. The foldable design is clearly the selling point, here.
How to preorder the Razr
The new Razr will cost $1,500 at launch, or can be financed for $62.49 a month for 24 months. That’s pretty steep for a mid-range phone if you ask me, but hey, nostalgia is one hell of a drug—and those bending screens aren’t cheap.
Even if the price isn’t an issue for you, you may need to change your phone service in order to get one. The Razr only supports Verizon’s network and there is no unlocked version for sale. If you really want this phone but don’t use Verizon, you’ll need to swap carriers or open a new service account.
The Motorola Razr will be available from Walmart, Verizon, and Motorola starting January 26, 2020, though both Verizon and Motorola have their online store pages for the new phone up. Miss out on the pre-order, and you’ll be able to pick up a Razr from online and brick-and-mortar stores on February 6.
