THERE is nothing like being one of the first to watch the latest blockbuster on the day it comes out.
But with the rising cost of cinema tickets, it can sometimes feel like a total rip-off — especially if you end up hating the film.
Ticket prices jumped from on average £5.05 in 2007 to around £7.49 in 2017.
And with some cinemas in the capital costing as much as £18.50 for an adult, forking out for the whole family can be a daunting task.
But don’t give up hope because the money-saving experts at Vouchercloud have put together some tips to make cinema trips friendlier on your wallet:
1) If you are a regular cinema goer, consider investing in a membership deal. The Odeon Limitless pass, which costs from £17.99 per month, is the best value for money as you receive five per cent off when you pay up front for it. If you are going to 15 films a year — or 19 in London — it will work out cheaper with this pass.
2) Independent local cinemas can offer much cheaper prices than chains, so don’t always opt for your name brands.
3) Check voucher sites like Vouchercloud or Groupon for additional savings before you book a cinema ticket.
4) When going to the cinema with the children, book a family ticket where available as these will be cheaper than buying the tickets individually. Many cinema firms, such as Cineworld, also include savings on refreshments as part of these.
5) Check if you are eligible for discounted ticket prices. Many people will qualify for some kind of saving across the majority of popular chains, including students, carers and seniors.
6) Buy your sweets elsewhere — many Poundland and Wilko stores offer cut-price pick’n’mix meaning you will save loads on snacks.
7) Odeon is currently offering 40 per cent off to anyone who visits between now and March 10. You will be given the voucher on an initial visit during this period, which you can then use on your next trip to the flicks. Vue has slashed the cost of its tickets to £4.99 but only at 22 of its cinemas across the country.
