Google on Thursday announced that Assistant can now set music alarms, a feature that arrived on Amazon’s rival Alexa voice assistant in December. Just say “Hey Google, set an alarm for 6 a.m. that plays [your favorite musician]” to your Google Home or other Assistant-enabled smart speaker. That way, when morning comes, you’ll start the day with your favorite tune.
Meanwhile, another new Google Assistant feature can make finding TV shows you want to watch a little easier.
Say you’re trying to locate The Flash, for instance. “Just say ‘Hey Google, what channel airs The Flash’ or ‘Hey Google, when does The Flash air next,'” and Assistant will give you the information you’re after, Google Assistant Product Management Director Lilian Rincon wrote in a blog post.
Plus, Google Assistant is getting a little more Netflix-friendly. When you’re ready to resume a Stranger Things binge session, just say “Hey Google, play Stranger Things on Netflix,” and the streaming service will pick up right where you left off. To try out this feature, link your Netflix account in the Google Home app or via Assistant on your phone.
Last but not least, if you’re a Google Play Music user, you can finally now use voice commands to play tunes you’ve purchased or uploaded to your own library. “It’s as simple as asking for your favorite artist, song or album and singing along to the beat,” Rincon wrote.
