Delta Airlines Offers Retired Georgia Mailman A Free Trip To Hawaii

A beloved Georgia mailman received the surprise of his life after he recently retired.

Floyd Martin became a viral sensation this week when an article and Twitter thread about his last day on the job as a mail carrier caught national attention. He had worked the same route in downtown Marietta for two decades.

One thing from his story became very clear: Martin was adored by all the people along his route.

Many residents decorated their mailboxes for Martin’s last day this week and came together to throw him a potluck block party. Martin’s story, and that of the friends on his route went viral when a reporter with the Atlanta Journal-Constitution tweeted about it.

Martin told Jennifer Brett, the reporter, that he wanted to visit Hawaii one day during his retirement. Soon after, neighbors on his route put together a GoFundMe fundraiser to help him realize this dream, AJC reports.

Delta Air Lines saw the community effort, and decided to also help the dream happen.

“A trip to Hawaii is the perfect way to celebrate a wonderful career. We’d love to take care of Mr. Martin’s flight,” the airline wrote on Twitter.

Martin was beloved by all on his route, with kids, the elderly and even pets gravitating towards his kind spirit.

Congratulation on your retirement, Mr. Floyd!
