Privacy policy

This policy explains what we collect when you use americannewsgroup.com, why, and what you can do about it. It applies to this website only.

Who we are

This site is published by Market Equities Limited, Courtyard, Manor House, 3 Church Rd, Malahide, Co. Dublin, K36 AK25, Ireland. For any privacy question or request, contact us via our contact page.

What we collect

When you simply read the site

Reading requires no account and we ask you for nothing. We do use analytics software, described below, which records how the site is used. Our web server also keeps ordinary request logs.

When you subscribe to our newsletter

We collect the email address you give us and, if you choose to provide one, a mobile number. We use them to send you the newsletter you asked for, and SMS alerts where you have given us a number. The mobile number is optional — an email address alone subscribes you. We do not sell either. Every email includes an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing removes you from the list; to stop text messages, contact us and we will remove your number.

Server logs

Our web server records requests, including IP addresses, as a normal part of operating and securing the site.

Third parties

Two parts of this site load content from other companies. When that content loads, your browser contacts them directly, and they may receive your IP address and set cookies:

  • TradingView — the market data and quote widgets.
  • Eagle Eye — the sentiment widget.

Both load automatically when you open a page. That happens as the page is building, before you click anything, so both companies see your IP address and may set their own cookies on your device from the moment you arrive. We are telling you this plainly rather than burying it: it is how the site works today.

What they receive is governed by their own privacy policies, not by ours — TradingView's and Eagle Eye's. We do not receive that data and we do not use it.

If you would rather they did not load, a content blocker (uBlock Origin, or your browser's built-in tracking protection) will stop them. The rest of the site works normally without them — you will simply see empty panels where the market data and sentiment widgets would be.

Mailchimp — newsletter and SMS delivery, if you subscribe. Unlike the two above, Mailchimp is not contacted when you simply read: the signup form posts to it only when you submit it. Your email address, and any mobile number you give us, are stored on Mailchimp's systems and handled under their privacy statement.

Typefaces are served from this site, not from a font service, so no third party is contacted for them.

Analytics

We use analytics software to understand which articles are read and how people find us. The tool we currently use is Rybbit, and we may use other measurement tools — including Google Analytics — alongside or instead of it from time to time.

Analytics of this kind records the pages you view, roughly where you are (derived from your IP address), the site or search that sent you, and your browser and device type.

Rybbit does not set cookies. It does store a small identifier in your browser's local storage so that repeat visits can be recognised as the same browser, and a flag in session storage for the current visit. Other measurement tools, if we use them, generally do set cookies.

We use this in aggregate — to decide what to cover and what is working. We do not use it to identify you personally, we do not try to work out who you are, and we do not sell it.

You can opt out using a content blocker or your browser's tracking protection, and for Google Analytics specifically with Google's own opt-out add-on. The site works normally either way.

Cookies

Cookies on this site come from the services described above rather than from us directly — TradingView and Eagle Eye when their widgets load. Our current analytics tool sets no cookies, but it does write to your browser's local storage, which works in much the same way for these purposes. All of it happens as the page loads, before you click anything.

You can block or delete cookies through your browser at any time, and a content blocker will stop these services loading in the first place. Neither will stop you reading the site.

For completeness: the password-protected administration area used by our own staff runs on WordPress and sets its own session cookies. Readers never reach it, and nothing there is involved in serving the pages you read.

How long we keep things

Analytics data is held by the analytics provider under its own retention settings; we keep no separate copy. Newsletter subscriptions — your email address and any mobile number — are kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to remove the number. Server logs are kept for 30 days.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask what personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to object to how we use it, or to receive a copy. Contact us and we will respond.

Because we hold analytics only in aggregate and never tie it to a name, we usually cannot find "your" data from a name or email alone — if you make a request, tell us enough to identify the records you mean. To stop the analytics and the widgets collecting anything in the first place, use a content blocker or your browser's tracking protection, as described above.

Children

This site is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 16.

Changes

We'll update this page if our practices change, and we'll change the date at the top when we do.
